I wanted to differentiate the young Bess Myerson from the famous person she became in the 1950s and beyond, all of which began with her crowning as Miss America in 1945. It also seemed appropriate to portray her as Bessie during that coming-of-age period. I found a few references to this pet name in a biography, one saying that her father enjoyed "sharing a laugh-Meet the Author Thank you for visiting my website! I am a writer living in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, the city where my parents, both immigrants, met, married, and settled soon after World War II. My first novel, Tasa's Song (2016), was informed and inspired by my mother's early life in eastern Poland. My second novel, A Ritchie Boy (2020), was sparked by my father's role as one of
